Using the Smart Pinoy DOS in Singapore

When you're here in Singapore and want to connect to your family in the Philippines, you have to be wise on choosing the right medium of communication.

Aside from Facebook, Skype, YM, and a lot more, you can use your mobile to call and text your relatives in Philippines inexpensively.

What is Smart Pinoy DOS?
SMART is one of the biggest telecommunications company in the Philippines.  They have extended their services in Singapore.  This is what they call the SMART PINOY.

Smart Pinoy is a SIM card from SMART Communications, which you can buy at Lucky Plaza, 7-eleven, Cheers and some cellphone dealers here in Singapore.  Buying a SIM in Singapore needs your passport details by the way.

Smart Pinoy offers the SMART PINOY DOS where you can subscribe every month at a value of $2.00, which will be automatically deducted from your load, even if you don't use it quite often.  It will be deactivated if you don't have enough load balance to transact, you can reactivate it but will change your Philippine number.

Smart Pinoy will send you a Philippine number, which is the equivalent Philippine local number of your Smart Pinoy SIM.  This will be the number which your relatives use to contact you.

How to Activate Smart Pinoy DOS?

Text DOS <space> ON and send to 55550.

Smart Pinoy DOS will send you a SMS message stating your Philippine number.

How to call Philippines using SMART PINOY DOS from Singapore?
To call a relative in Philippines from Singapore, you need to have a SMART Pinoy DOS subscription by activating it with your Smart Pinoy SIM.

If the DOS is activated, you can just dial this numbers:

                        1561+Country Code+Area Code +Tel. No.
Example:
If your relative's cellphone number is 09213456789 or the Manila landline number is 8231234

(For Cellphones)  1561639213456789 then press CALL
(For Landlines) 15616328231234  then press CALL

If you do not put the 1561 at the beginning of the country code, they will deduct to your load in a roaming rate. Painful!!!

Tip: Singapore should be the one to call Philippines so that the Philippine cellphone has no deduction on its load.  But, if Philippines will call Singapore, then Philippines will be deducted from its load and  Smart Pinoy owner as well.

What I do is to ask my relative in the Philippines to give me a miss call and I call them back. The cost of the call from Singapore is the same as calling in Philippines locally.

How to call Singapore using SMART PINOY DOS from Philippines?
Smart Pinoy DOS will issue you a Philippines number. Your relative can now contact you using this number.

Example:  Your Smart Pinoy DOS Philippine number is +639209234567

Your relative will just directly dial this number to contact you.

How to Text Philippines using SMART PINOY DOS from Singapore and Vice Versa?
Sending a text message to Philippines is easy, just create a message and send to the Philippine number of your relative.

Example:  "How's Philippines? give my regards to all!!!"  then send to +639213456789-(relative's number)

Philippines can send text messages to Smart Pinoy DOS:

Example: "Please send money, need it badly?" then send to +639209234567-(Smart Pinoy DOS Number)

Philippines text message  to Singapore costs P1.00 (Normal rate) and Singapore's text message to Philippines is around S$0.05.

  4. hello. I've been here in SG for more than 3 weeks & been using Smart Pinoy DOS since my first day here. The problem was that yesterday my friend in the Philippines keeps on asking why i call her, actually its a miscall. But the truth is I haven't dialled her number on my cellphone. I even checked my Call Log and found nothing, and still she keep on insisting me i've called her and I'm kinda pissed off. Is that possible? How does it works? Thanks.

  9. Buy top-up card at lucky plaza or any cellphone/cards stores inside the malls in Singapore. Ask for the Smart Pinoy. Scratch the protective ink with the 12 digit pin and dial 55551 + 12 digit PIN and press CALL.

  14. Thank you so much for the info.! Paano po kapag naka-unli smart-smart sa pinas, considered po ba ang smart pinoy dos number or mababawasan po ang load kapag nagtext sa sg?

    1. The smart pinoy DOS number is a Philippine local number, should not be chargeable when using unli.

But,it's better to use Smart Pinoy(Singapore)to call Smart(Philippines). The charge is the same as calling within Philippines.

  15. Hello, I was wondering if my relative is using unli text to smart/talk and text in philippines, then when he texts my smart pinoy dos number, will it still be his unli or will it deduct from his regular load?

    ReplyDelete
  16. just to clear if I registered my Smart Pinoy to DOS,text DOS ON 23143 and will be charge 2$ monthly. Then I will recieved PH number. Now from PH will call my number recieved from DOS activated. How much will be charge them? How about me here in Singapore, you think I wil not be deducted in my Load?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Singapore should be the one to call Philippines so that the Philippine cellphone has no deduction on its load. But, if Philippines will call Singapore, then Philippines will be deducted from its load and Smart Pinoy owner as well.
It means, what is the advantage of Register to DOS if I will be charge also here in Singapore.
Just to be call from Philippines?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, Singapore should call Philippines.

The advantage is that DOS call charge is cheaper than the normal rate (if not registered)and Philippine text to Singapore is Philippine local text rate only..

  23. Hello, I just would like to ask. My monthly renewal is every 22nd of the month. And then nong March 18, nagsend na ng message ang Smart na kailangan ko raw magload for the renewal and so I did. Pero they did not send a notification na narenew na. Today, bigla na lang nagsend uli na i don't have enough load to transact. Tapos di na ako makareceive ng text from Pinas (in my Pinas number). So nagload ako uli. Kaso di pa rin gumana. Ano po ba kaya ang nangyari dito? And how can fix this? Thank you very much.

I just want to confirm this:

If a relative back in the Philippines will Text or Call me here, they will be charged using local rates. The question is, will I be charged as well, even if I wasn't the one who made the call?

If this is true, I wonder why the Smart Pinoy sim card agent did not inform me about this when I bought the sim. I appreciate any response. Thank you.

In contrast to the Tip posted above, when someone from the Philippines calls a Smart Pinyo Dos owner, he will be charged a local rate, BUT the OFW will NOT be charged incoming call.

Pero kung call ka sa pinas gamit pinoy DOS, mura lang po ang bawas, parang tumawag ka lang locally sa pinas. Dapat SG po ang tatawag satin para mura. Kung text naman, pwede both ang magtext na mura lang ang bayad.

    1. DOS PH number cannot be loaded peso values from the Philippines. Loading will have to be done from SG side at your assigned Smart Pinoy SG number, you can load the top-up variants ($5, $15 Mega 25 or $20 Pro20) or via e-load facility available from retailers or from the Smart Pinoy Centre.

Activating DOS (by texting DOS ON to 55550) will not work if you do not have sufficient load in your account, I suggest to check your balance first by calling 55554, thereafter, you will receive an SMS notification on your remaining balance.

      Note from SMART Pinoy:
For the subscriber to receive calls from PH, he would have to register for this service by texting, we have set this as optional to give the customers the freedom to activate the feature or not (as some do not have use for it and prefer that they do the calling to PH as it is cheaper, and so as not to use up their PH caller's load).

Email me if you have further inquiries.

  46. Hi! I should've read this blog before going SG. I wasn't able to send DOS ON to 55550. But what I was able to do, was to use it as a regular SG Sim and send/receive text messages from and to my SG friends which was great. I think I was also able to use internet/3G for a few minutes/MB. Superb!

My question is, now that I'm back PH, do I throw this sim card away, or is it for keeps? Can it be easily reactivated when I get back to SG, say next year?

Note: When you buy SIM cards in Singapore, you will be asked to provide your passport details or your Identification Card.
