How I Got an Approved EPEC Application

NOTE: As of December 01, 2011, EPEC Scheme is discontinued by MOM...Read More.

Ok, I have given you some few tips about EPEC, how it's applied and where to do it?

How I got my EPEC? This is the best story I usually tell to my colleagues. The incident that changed my career.

One day, I chat with my friend, who is in Singapore. I discussed with him that I wanted to go to that place. I was hesitant during that time because of what I've experienced in UAE, another tragic story, more about that later.

Anyway, he suggested that I should get an EPEC from the MOM (Ministry of Manpower) at Singapore. Excuse me, what is EPEC and MOM again? I have discussed it here...

So, I then tried to search for it online for he had already forgot the link. So I visited their site...
FAQs of MOM - This is where you can find the frequently ask questions about EPEC.
Apply EPEC Online - You can apply for EPEC here provided that you have read the FAQs.
I read the FAQs first and all about the requirements for EPEC. So, I prepared my Transcript of Records (TOR), Diploma, Passport, Passport size photo. No money was cashed out, EPEC application is FREE, this is Singapore my friend.

As what they have indicated in the FAQ, I scanned all my documents using a scanner and just resize it to the byte size, which MOM requires, using Photoshop.

Now, I am ready to apply EPEC online, followed every instructions and clicked the SUBMIT button.

I've waited for the result. After three days, I received an email from MOM to let me know that my EPEC application is......Disapproved!!!

To my surprise, the world came to a pause. Moments of silence, this could not be real.

What dug to my mind is that, maybe it's because of my age which is just below 35, because of my credentials that doesn't matched their requirements or because they don't want my ugly face!

All of these questions came circling into my brains. With those doubts in mind, I started to feel rebellious, to the extent that I questioned the credibility of the MOM. Why such a thing did they disapproved my credentials, knowing that all of it fits their requirements?

That is when I replied to their email and asked them what was the reason of disapproval when I have these credentials at hand? I thought that they won't even bother to reply on my query because they have the rules that I should re-apply after 90 days upon my disapproval. I told myself that there's nothing to lose. *fingers-crossed*

After a day, I opened my email, a MOM Officer replied to me and asked me, "Are those documents that you've sent on our database are originals?" I said, "Yes!"

Then they replied, "Alright, I will disable your previous application and you may apply for another." To my relief, I opened up the site and re-applied for the second time.

After 3 days, an email from MOM came with an Approved EPEC number, that looks something like this EPEC-2009xxxx. The (xxx) marked is my EPEC number which I can't show it to you. It was my best moment and sent them a reply...with a simple, thank you!

  1. Hi... I tried to reply from the rejection letter from MOM but unfortunately it just bounced back to me... It said that "The recipient server did not accept our requests to connect." Well maybe because I sent it to "mom_epec_donotreply@epec.mom.gov.sg". But is it possible for me to know the email address to use so that I could send my letter of appeal?
    thanks a lot!

  2. Hi lady gurl,

You can try to email mom_wpd_epec@mom.gov.sg, This is what they provided on their website. I used this email. Hope it helps.

  3. it's so nice reading this blog just when I received my email of rejection...i just sent a letter of appeal using the email address you gave. hoping i get a wonderful reply in the coming days.

  4. I'm sorry for that news. Hopefully they'll review it again. Don't lose hope, maybe they're just following their quota. Try to apply again after 90 days.

  5. Hi Lady Girl & Mehrey, Have you received your reply from mom? My EPEC has been recently rejected so I was wondering what is the outcome the appeal. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Hi,
Thanks for the tip. Im just wondering since the application form that I had to fill up didnt ask for any work experiences. It only asked for my usual personal information and the university i went to - I was expecting that job experiences would be part to fill up. And a day after, I got rejected. Is this the new application form now for EPEC? :(

    ReplyDelete
  7. Sorry for your bad news, EPEC will only ask about your scholastic record. They do not need the experience. They are particular with the degree and the school.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Hi, how did you "activate" your EPEC/LTSVP? did you pay by credit card? Or you have the Enets/Amex card? thanks!

  10. hi sir ben, i would like to say thank you for telling me about the appeal... the moment i got my rejection letter i sent mom an appeal and got a reply from a MOM officer after a week... it took roughly around 2-3 weeks after i got an approved epec :)

@Jessica 44 - the appeal was approved:) sorry for replying just now... been busy lately :) the mom officer just asked for my school id and TOR with diploma and viola! she asked me to submit a new application!

again sir ben! thank you sooo much for being an inspiration! :)

  11. Wow, that was really a great news!!! CONGRATS, I am so glad that I was able to give you hope and inspiration.

I hope you can share your detailed experience here, if it's fine with you.

  12. Hi Mehrey,

I just received my email of rejection. I wanna ask what exactly you wrote in your letter of appeal? Did you just ask why your submitted credentials did not fit their requirements?

    Thank you.

  13. Thank you for this very helpful post!:)
However, I need to ask you a few questions, its very minute but I didn't want to commit any mistakes:)

Does "Highest Educ attained" mean my bachelor's degree? And 2nd and 3rd highest qualification mean my HS and Elem educ?
I tried to fill up an EPEC form and when I got to my 3rd highest qualification there's no option for "Primary or Elementary" education, that's why I'm thinking I understood it all wrong.

Would you advise me to put my first course (I just shifted from another course before I graduate) instead or maybe my summer certificate workshop so that I wouldn't need to put "Elementary" on my 3rd highest qualification (since its not in the option).

Thank you very much and Im sorry to bother you with these questions but I really need to ask someone who might help:)

    God bless sir!

    -Chichi from QC

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hi Chichi, you don't need to put elementary and high school. The space is for vocational diploma, bachelor's degree or masters. If you have 2 degrees like me (EE & ECE), I encoded the EE as 1st and ECE as 2nd highest qualification. the latest qualification should be at the 1st. hope this helps...

  15. Oh thank you sir! :)
I now figured it out. By the way, I would like to ask if you know what to do if my diploma is in tagalog. Im a UP grad and they issue a tagalog diploma. I'm worried that I'd get a rejection from EPEC. But I also uploaded a cert of graduation which is in English. I just says that I am a grad at that school with that course.
Thank you very much for taking time to answer sir! :)

    Chichi from QC

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hi Chi, you can ask your Registrar to have an English translation(version)of your Diploma. You're right, it may be grounds for rejection, MOM officers can not read Tagalog, that you have to consider.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Thank you very much sir! Tomorrow I am going to request for a diploma English translatio:)
God bless sir, ever ready to help and answer:)

  19. hi ben.. i recently sent an epec application (without properly researching about it.. my bad.. i know >_<) but after 3 days i checked to see my status and i saw that there are other requirements.. i was surprised and so i withdrew my application (still pending at that time) since i dont have all of those requirements at hand.. is it okay if I reapply again with all the requirements just days after withdrawing my last attempt? *nervous smile* i really enjoyed reading your blogs and tips.. :) i really want to stay and work in Singapore since i first went and fell in love with the country last year...keep it up!^^
    God bless!^^

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hi Makulit Chelle(hehe, joke!)...Yes, you can withdraw the application anytime if it has not been approved or rejected. Then you can apply again, make sure all documents are ready before applying. First step is to key in all your information on their online application and Submit..after 3 days or more, they will ask you to send your requirements...and few days after, hope they'll send you a good news...:)

  23. Hi sir!
I just wanna share the good news.
I read just now from my email that my EPEC app has been approved!
I don't know what to feel. That's weird. Maybe I'm shocked because im not expecting it for another 3 more weeks. It's really fast. Everything feels like a blur.
I haven't talked to anyone yet, but since you were helping me by providing useful and helpful informations, I feel like I should tell you:)
I don't know what to do next. Should I buy my plane ticket in the next 2 weeks?or should I wait for my EPEC hard copy letter to arrive first?
Anyway, I had my diploma translated but I wasn't able to use it since MOM decided to approve my application earlier (thank you Lord! Oh, it's Good Friday.hmm, VERY GOOD Friday for me:)
Sorry sir, was writing you a novel already haha! It's just that I can't contain what I'm feeling right now upon reading the email bearing good news:)
I hope to see you in SG soon!
God bless you sir! And happy Easter:)

  24. Congrats Chi!!!I'm so happy and proud that I have help you in any way I can on your quest for EPEC. Plan well before going here, wait for your certificate. Don't buy any ticket yet. I will make a post on how to plan before going to SG on April 24. It is not the same as Philippines..You're on your own here. Don't be in a hurry, prepare all necessary things. Your translated Diploma will be useful here. I will see you soon! Happy Easter too!

  25. Hi Ben, I loved your website. It feels like ive got another chance after reading your story.
I applied for EPEC on 23rd April and in a day i got a rejection mail. I am shocked and at the same time upset because my institute was listed and i had kept all my documents ready to upload but for my bad luck they dint even give me a chance to upload my documents for verifications.
As suggested by you, i have decided to send them an email attaching my attested documenets. I am an MBA in Finance and part qualified for CIMA(level 3 yet to appear) from UK as well. i had one query there are 2 questions in the EPEC application 1. faculty of study and 2. specialization of study, what is the diffeence between the two? for eg: I'm am MBA in finance so Faculty would be Finance and Specialization also would be finance? in the submitted application the choice i made was 1. Business administration 2. Finance.. awaiting your response.... Cheers.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm not familiar with BA but maybe I can give you an example. For an Engineer, the faculty would be Engineering and Specialization is EE, ECE, CoE, ME or CE. Faculty is the department from which your major/specialization of studies is under it. Hope it helps...

  27. gudpm, i just wanna ask that i'm a registered Civil engineer, can i put it in my 2nd Highest qualification attained?I just cant find the awarding body PRC(Professional Regulation Commission)thanks for the help Ben.. :)

  28. Sorry, they only require the educational attainment and not the license. When I applied for work here, they(MOM & employer) didn't get my PRC certificate or even bother to look at it.

  29. HI,

I have applied for my EPEC and with in a day it got rejected with out any reason. Not sure how to proceed further. Can I check with Mom on the reason why it got rejected. ?

Also there is no link to upload the documents. I just filled the form and submitted. It asked only for personal and graduation details. I believe we will be provided with the link to upload documents once initial screening of application is successful. Please confirm.

My college is also listed but as Anna University - Affiliated College. So will that be a problem.

    Kindly reply.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Babu, your educational attainment and school is the MOM's criteria. It was pre-screened when you provided your graduation details. There are also many factors why you've been rejected. You can check the thread above regarding how to email the MOM. You can still apply for EPEC after 90 days. Good Luck! Be positive...

  31. Thanks Ben for your quick response.

Thank you so much for your active involvement in this blog. I'm sure it has benefited many Singbies!

I have applied for my EPEC about 2 weeks ago I received no response yet. When I visit MOM's webiste and check, it states "pending" 2 weeks seems a little unusual, is it?

I am an EPEC holder, and now working. I don't give any payment to MOM every month. It's the responsibility of your employer to pay the government ministries. But, of course, you need to pay Singapore taxes every year. Hope this helps...

    Dear KUMAR

Thank you for your application of the Employment Pass Eligibility Certificate (EPEC) EPEC-2011-21581.

Your application has been rejected because only foreigners who are i) holders of selected university qualifications, or ii) current or former holders of selected skilled migrant visas will be able to get an EPEC.

Please note that this does not indicate that your future application for an Employment Pass (EP) will be rejected, as MOM considers holistically various factors, including the employer, nature of job, applicant's salary, educational qualifications, etc, before granting work passes.

You can apply for a job in Singapore from overseas as many foreigners do. It would be helpful for you to use the Employment/S Pass Self-Assessment Tool (EP SAT) to get a preliminary indication of the likelihood of qualifying for an Employment or S Pass on finding a job. The EP SAT is available on http://sat.mom.gov.sg.

We thank you for your strong interest to work in Singapore.

Pls reson for my applicatio rejection

But I wish you could answer some of my questions.

    This is my story...

I applied yesterday in EPEC and I got a reply just now. It was rejected without saying the reason why.

I graduated in University of the Philippines Los Banos, chemical engineering ang course ko. Hindi na ba kasama ang UPLB sa list of qualified universities?

And first part pa lang ng application ko rejected na kagad. I just entered my basic information and highest qualification attained. Yun lang ba talaga ang tinatanung pag fisrt part ng application.

    Please help po.

    Thanks so much...

  60. You should follow what was indicated in your Diploma/Degree Certificate. What is the "E" after the CS? ex: BS-EE(Faculty-Engineering; Specialization-Electrical Engineering)...hope this helps.

  66. Hello Ben,

A couple of hours after i put in the post above, I got the EPEC approval email from MOM ! I dont think it was due to the mail I sent them. I guess I just jumped the gun before they sent it out to me. Now ill sit and figure out if I need to wait for the Physical EPEC certificate to reach me in India or, if I can apply for the visa based on the approval email from MOM that i got today. I have already booked a one way ticket to sg for sept.

Just for the benefit of other applicants, the whole process from beginning application to receiving the approval took 18 working days (excluding sat & Sun) for me. These were horrid days cos waiting just is frustrating beyond words.

  67. Hi Ben,

    Query again!

    https://ltpass.ica.gov.sg/eltsvp/newAppPreLogin.do

thats where i need to apply for the long term stay pass online.

Further in the next page i get the following 4 fields to fill in...

    1)Travel Document No.

    2)Travel Document Expiry Date

3)Employment Pass Eligibility Certificate (EPEC) Reference No. : (EPEC-XXXX-XXXXX)

4)Employment Pass Eligibility Certificate (EPEC) Issue Date : (DDMMYYYY)

    Im assuming here ,
    1) is my passport number
    2) is the expiry date of my passport
3 is the EPEC ref number which I know
    4) ??

I need to know, is the EPEC issue date and the date You (Ben, Gobi) got the approval email the same?? Can I go ahead and put in today's date in the 4th field because I got that epec approval email today? Itd be awesome if you clarified.

    Thanks & Regards
    Jeevan

    ReplyDelete
  68. Jeevan,if you're not in a hurry, you can wait. You can also claim it when you reach in Singapore and apply your LTVP.

    http://www.benalagnam.com/2011/03/how-to-activate-epec-to-long-term-visit.html

LTVP can only be applied when you are physically in Singapore. One of the requirement is disembarkation/embarkation card, which means you have landed in Singapore. Please check the link above. This means that you need to be here as a tourist.

I don't know how the immigration process in India and it's regarding the one-way ticket. In Philippines, immigration does not allow 1-way tickets for a tourist in Singapore.

Ans. 4)the date of EPEC Approval is written on the document itself. You need to see it to be sure.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Thanks Ben ! Big help :)
Ill just sit tight now :)
Ill keep that return ticket handy too. Thanks.

Just an update. My EPEC doc arrived a couple of days ago. So for the benefit of ppl applying from India, it took about 40-45 days in all for me from application to approval and finally delivery of the document.

    Gobi,

Thanks for the update on your EPEC doc arrival. All the very best to you for your Sg stint. I am currently in God'd own country at my parent's house on a vacation :) will head to Mumbai soon, and then by sept first week, to Sg.

  85. Hey pls help,
I have recently submitted my epec application and got a mail asking to upload supporting documents. As a proof of my qualification, I have uploaded only my degree certificate(which contains only my name,no id or passport number)and now I'm feeling that won't be enough for them to assess my qualification. it has been a week since I sent those documents and the status is still pending.
So someone pls advice me on this. should I withdraw my application and submit a new or should I wait for them to respond,.I'm afraid if I wait, my application will get rejected without giving me a chance to prove my qualification. and of course I can't wait for another 90 days. someone pls help me on this.

  86. hi ben,
I checked the link that you gave and i discovered that my universities were not included, does that mean that my application will soon be rejected. i graduated B.S. Nursing in Our Lady Of Fatima Valenzuela and had my Masters at University of La Salette.
Pls advise me... i am actually hear in singapore and trying my luck. Thanks.

  87. Unfortunately, this is what they've stated. I hope MOM will consider your Masters Degree. But, this is not the reason to lose hope. You can still find a job without the EPEC through your experience and academics.

  89. Don't be, this is not the end of the world. Try the best that you can, 'til to the last drop.

If in the worst case, you can still go back to Singapore for a second try or hired by an agency in Philippines.

I was in Abu Dhabi few years ago and have done the same thing as you did. Unfortunately, I signed a contract with a company but was never given a Visa, I was waiting there for 2 months..money depleting. That was my dark days, BUT, the light showed up on me in Singapore...

Send your resumes to all vacant positions even if you find it impossible. This is what I call "To the last drop!".

  93. Hey Ben,

How you doin,I just got a email today asking me resubmit my application.

I had applied 45 days ago and the same was rejected, post which I had sent them a mail with the certificates.

I have resubmitted my application.just wanted to know as to what is the normal
Trend in the approvals when asked to reapply.

    Thanks

    Regards

    ReplyDelete
  94. Nice Ronnie! This is what happened to me and I also re-submitted my credentials and was approved. I think this is a good sign that you'll be approved because 90 days is the limit for re-application and they don't normally ask you to re-apply. For me, it's a 90% approved. Please keep us updated.

  95. Hi Ben,

I just checked on the website, the status still says pending.but there are empty fields wherein they are asking to upload photo and qualification certificates.

I haven't received any email from them as yet.

  98. Hi All,

Thanks to Ben, and everybody else for sharing their experiences.

I have been rejected twice once (2010), and once this month without any reason. Hence after reading all the blogposts here, I have sent an email to "mom_wpd_epec" providing my all the educational documents as attachment, and links to my universities.

    1. North Maharashtra University
    2. Department of Technical Education, Karnataka.

Anything more can be done from our side?

  99. Hello ben, this is marc again. I forgot to tell you that i had applied epec a month ago and got rejected stating that i didnt get to submit the documents they needed because instead of my duploma, i sent them my TOR and they also stated that what they need is my Masters diploma or certificate not my Masters TOR. This is my question, since they asked me to reapply because I petitioned for it (July 16, 2011), and now its still pending, is there a case here that it took them to complete the 18 - 20 days usual waiting period to be rejected? Im really hoping and praying because my 2nd month will expire on the 19th and this epec will help alot.

other bloggers pls also react on this, is waiting for 18-20 days a positive sign? my 18th day i assume will be on the 10th and its my birthday. i hope its fate. =) pls pray for the approval of my epec my co-bloggers. thanks alot. =) thanks ben. im loving you already for helping =) - marc

Thank you for your application of the Employment Pass Eligibility Certificate (EPEC) EPEC-****-*****.

Your application has been rejected because you did not provide all the required documents for our consideration of your EPEC application.

If you wish to reapply for an EPEC, please ensure that you have all the necessary documents to support your application. You can email us at mom_wpd_epec@mom.gov.sg if you want to resubmit your application. Please quote your EPEC reference no and passport no in your email.

  108. Hi all,

I just want to share my bit and get some advice too. I applied for EPEC on 25th August. 2 days later they asked for my scanned details. 2 days later I sent them, and until today (9th Sept.) It's still pending.. Is this normal? Should I be contacting them or would they reject me if I show desperation?

Also, if it's successful, do i *have* to get a *return* ticket? If yes, does the return have to be within a week/2? or can it be after a month/2 ? Regardless that I won't use it of course..

    Thanks, and wish me luck!
And congrats to all of those who got it so far, and good luck for the rest who are trying.

    ReplyDelete
  109. @Adi,you can still find a job without EPEC. Try to re-apply after 90 days.

@Sam, 10 days of waiting for EPEC is normal. Some waited for 45 days and got approved. Providing a return ticket (usually within a week after landing) will depend on the immigration officer. Philippine immigration doesn't allow tourists to Singapore to have a one-way ticket only.

Ben i would like to ask you if my epec will be approved this week, can i immediately convert it to a pass here and it is posible to convert even if you are in SG before the approval?

Thanks ben. im really Praying and Hoping. Pls help me praying.thank you bloggers!

  124. EPEC is an assurance that you can look for a job legally in Singapore for 1 year.

Some people I know, who have no EPEC, tried their luck here with return tickets. Some managed to find a job, but some don't for a span of one month or two. But this is a risk, it's up to you to decide.

Philippine Immigration don't allow tourist to have one way ticket only.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Hi Sandy,

    Here are your answers..

Readers to note, This post is about Indian passport holders and their visa applications only !.

It all depends on where your passport was issued from. Mine was issued at Mumbai. SO I applied to the Mumbai consulate. For passports issued in southern India, visa applications would go to the Chennai Consulate and for northern Indian Passports it'd be Delhi.

Pls do check this links, depending on where ever your passport is from. Please call and make sure where your application needs to go to !!

    http://www.mfa.gov.sg/mumbai/
    http://www.mfa.gov.sg/chennai/
    http://www.mfa.gov.sg/newdelhi/

It says here (in the mumbai link) that direct applications cant be made, youll have to use the services of an approved agent. I used Akbar Travels, and they were quite capable and helpful. The visa application fee was Rs 1050, and their service charges were Rs 800. So I paid Rs 1850 in all to the Akbar Travels guys to apply for my Visa. SOTC, Kouni, Thomas Cook etc. may also be other options for you. This also answers your questions about where and how to apply for the visa.

The status of my bank account was not so great when i filed for Visa. I had to get the past 6 months statement, signed and stamped my the bank. On asking if I needed to have a few laks in my account (like US or UK visa requirements), the visa agent said it was not a big deal. As long as the account shows some transactions and has a few thousand rupees in it at the time of getting the statement, it was all good. My account had like 60-70k in it, so i dint worry about it. It would not be a great idea however to have little or no money in the account ! They basically check if you have the means to at-least get a return ticket and sustain your self during your stay in SG. So its up to you. But Id recommend having around a lakh rupees in there. just to be safe. You dont wana take chances.

Ive got the EPEC, Ive got a couple of UK degrees and 5 years of work ex. Ive been applying to my kind of jobs for the past week. Not a bloody peep from anyone. I know its a waiting game, patience must be had and spirits must be sustained high.

Taking on from what someone already said here...if its a gamble... then we are all soldiers of fortune ! :)

    Cheers Guys!

  134. Hey Sandy,

Congrats on the approval! I am open for any general chit chat, but i am afraid i dont know about finding acco, cos i havent had to do that for myself here. Im staying with friends.

Job prospects depend on your profile, your experience, and the industry you belong to. To my knowledge IT and Finance are pretty hot here. You can get a head-start by registering yourself on job-sites and start digging ur personal contacts here that will help greatly.

    monster sg
    efinancialcareers sg
    jobscentral sg
    jobsdb sg
    linkedin singapore jobs

are some of the sites i use.

put any friend's singapore address and fone number (with their concent!) on ur cv, and mention that u are here from the month of october onwards. so youll know if any recruiters try to reach you. you can then call them back n say you will be meeting them in oct!

thats all i can tell you right now. you never know when or how itll click ! :)

  136. Hi All,

I just wanna share the details how I got my EPEC approved. Last Sept 5, I applied online and the next day I was asked to submit all the required documents. I uploaded my files (passport size pic, passport particulars and my degree/diploma). I've waiting for several days and just now, I got approved yey! I was really worried at first because its taking so long and that I wasn't able to upload my TOR to back up my diploma. Anyway, after all those waiting days it paid off. I'm so happy, I can now book for my SG trip. I guess I'll be an Octoberian too. Lol

I hope this helps, especially those who are waiting for their results. All in all, I got mine for 15 business days starting from the day I applied online.

Now, I might not wait for the Certificate to arrive and would probably ask for a copy in MOM SG.

    Cheers,

First thanks Ben for your valuable information about EPEC visa. Just Yesterday i applied for the EPEC, and i am waiting for result.

  139. Hey Sandy!

I flew on the 3rd sept. I booked about a month before the journey. options are many. I flew kingfisher cos i know they are decent with service. it was a lil more than tiger air or airasia..but those are truly no-frills ! and you dont wana spend 5.5 hours staring ar weird airhostesses ! thats why i chose kingfisher. i and a buddy came together, and we got out psp's along. beat eachothers ass with mortal kombat and tekken ! and watched a few episodes of friends in flight, and slept for a while while the strange girl to my left put her head on my shoulder n slept ! :))))

anyways, i paid about 9k for the onward and i booked air india for the return for 11.5k.

Reason being, if i had booked tiger air lets say (4.5 k yay!) but on cancellation they wudnt give me squat back! so i decided to throw in more money and get some back. I booked for 11.5k i cancelled couple of days ago and im getting back 8k! im a happy boy. 1000 bucks saved there.

My LEVP was approved in principle on the 18th of sept. I called the ICA and asked them if i needed to submit a return ticket when I went for the LTVP document submission (the approval happens before the submission of documents as you already declare online that you have the documents, and will submit them on the date youve picked the appointment with the ICA!)

Once i made sure that a return ticket wasnt needed anymore as my LTVP was approved!, i went ahead and cancelled it. there!

I will only suggest that you book air tickets through agents if they are getting you assurance of taking luggage in excess of 20+7 kilos! (agents can find you deals like that) if not, Id recommend you use websites of the airline or makemytrip, cleartrip, yatra.com etc all are fairly reliable, prices may differ ti the range of 2-500 rupees.

I always type out a whole lot more than what is asked of me dont I? :) I used to be a terror while giving presentations at the B-school or at work :)

  141. Hi all,

Quick question.. If my EPEC gets approved, when i get my LTVP, can I also bring in my dependent (my wife) to be with me while I search for a job? Or do i *need* to find a job first, *get* the EP working visa pass, and only then can I apply for my wife to join me?

Thanks, and keep up the good work here!

    ReplyDelete
  142. Hi Sam,

Please double check what you read now!

As far as I have looked around on the ICA and MOM websites, an LTVP is a leave to remain in SG for EMPLOYMENT SEEKERS with foreign qualifications for upto 1 year. Now I would assume that the government wouldn't want to shoulder an LTVP holder's dependent's entry while he / she is only seeking employment in the first place.

You are right about being able to apply for the spouse's dependent visa once your own EP has been processed.

What you can however do is getting your spouse along on a 3-4 week long social visit pass with you when you come with the EPEC (and a social visit pass for yourself as well), and just renew your spouse's visa for another 2-3 months with the help of a PR friend here when the first one expires.

Assuming that you wont require more than 1-4 months to land a job here, you can make sure both of you are together during that period. And ofcourse youll know what to do the moment you get an EP! :)

I hope Ben pours thru this and validates it. Id also request you to once again double check what I say here.

I would just like to know if it's necessary for you to be in the Philippines in applying for the EPEC? Can you apply for an EPEC while your already in singapore as a tourist? Thanks!!

    ReplyDelete
  148. Hi Cedi,it's better for you to apply while you're in Philippines. It takes time (around a week) to get an approval from MOM for your EPEC, and you don't want to waste this period in your 30-day stay in Singapore.

Get the EPEC in Phil. and activate it to LTVP once you're in Singapore. This is what I recommend.

I got my EPEC delivered (PH address) in less than 2 weeks (Oct. 5), better than I expected. Now, I'm here now in Singapore. I just arrived earlier today at 2am. Now, my quest in Singapore begins.

    Good luck ya'll! :>

  150. Hi Ben,
Once an approved EPEC is received, does the MOM require the applicant to be in Singapore at a specified date? When does the 1-year job-hunting period begin?
    Thanks,
    Kabayan

    ReplyDelete
  151. Yes, you need to activate your EPEC to a Long term Visit Pass (LTVP) within 2 years from the date indicated in your certificate.

The LTVP is to allow you to stay in Singapore for 1 year and look for a job, and starts counting from the date of the approval of your LTVP.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Hi Kabayan,

For example, I was granted an EPEC. Then I bought a two-way ticket to Singapore, departure is Oct. 01,2011 and return date is Oct. 31, 2011. Within this period, while I am in Singapore, I was given LTVP. Since I will be staying for one year, I will not be able to use my return ticket. In the records of ICA, I should leave the country on Oct. 31, 2011. Do I need to inform ICA of my approved LTVP so that I would not be questioned? Or is it automatic that MOM will communicate with ICA about this? Please enlighten me. Thank you very much.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Hi Anon,

First off when you apply for your LTVP thru the ICA website, you will enter thru a category which screams out the "holder of EPEC" tag!

After paying the relevant fees and charges online, your LTVP is approved "in principle".

If however your meeting at ICA gets delayed and is set lets say for the 5th of November (as per your example) then youll have to call ICA and get check the procedure for an extension. If however your meeting with ICA is on or before your last date of stay mentioned in the disembarkation card given at the airport on arrival, then you are safe and wont need to extend your visit visa.

I would advise you to get a return trip of 45 days instead of 30 days. i did the same, and was lucky to have the ica meeting on the last date of my valid stay in singapore, thankfully i got the visa card the same day, making it a seamless stay then on.

So you dont need to inform ICA of your EPEC seperately, as they would already know you are a EPEC holder, and you will produce the original EPEC doc for verification on the day of your appointment with the ICA officer at the ICA building.

    Hope this helps.

  155. Hi Ben!

Just wanted to ask, the MOM emailed me to resubmit two of my previously submitted docs already. I have a feeling that they might think it's fake. However the website requires the doc to be only at 100kb which I don't know how to do! I'm already here in singapore for a vacation, can i drop by the ICA to personally show my scanned docs or if necessary my actual docs? My friend in singapore is advising me to do just that. Thanks!!

  156. Hi Cedi,

Answering only the part about re-sizing the file..
    1) if its a jpeg file, just open it in Microsoft Office Picture Manager, go to Picture tab, use the crop compress or resize options and get it to the desired file size!

    2) if you have a pdf document, then get a pdf to jpg converter (plenty of free ones online)then proceed with step (1).

  157. Hi Cedi, you need to call them to arrange an appointment.

In addition to Jeevan's advice, you can also scan it and set below 100kb. Canon scanner may do or edit it through Photoshop and re-size the canvass.

  158. Dear Ben, if you have been asked to submit documents does it mean that your EPEC is approved

    ReplyDelete
  159. I mean once you send in your application for EPEC, i got an EPEC reference number and asking me to submit further documents. Please advice

    Cheers

    ReplyDelete
  160. Please advice to the above post

    ReplyDelete
  161. No, reference number is just for your application. They will still need to verify your documents. But, I can say that you are in the 80% chance of approval. Hoping for the best! Keep us posted.

  164. Hi Ben,

I recieved a mail from EPEC today asking to resubmit the bachelors degree again. I have previously submitted my TOR, Passport particulars and Degree certificate. Why to resubmit the degree again.

  166. Hi Ben,

What are the chances of getting the EPEC and how is the current job market there.

    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  167. Chances of getting the EPEC depends on your qualifications. You can see my post here...

  168. Hi Usman, thanks for reading my blog. Have you tried to call the MOM number other than sending them the email?

You can call MOM Singapore at this number if you're at Pakistan +65 6438 5122.

If ever you can not wait more months for the certificate, you can go here in Singapore with a Tourist Visa and inform MOM that you will be claiming the EPEC certificate personally for the given reason that you haven't received it in your country.

The tourist visa is valid for 30 days. So, as soon as you receive the EPEC certificate, you can activate your EPEC to LTVP.

  169. Hi Ben,

How long does it take for the application to get processed. I applied on the 14th and after 2 days was asked to submit further documents, still pending, when can i expect the result

    ReplyDelete
  170. Hi Raj,

The EPEC approval processing time actually varies on factors like the country you are applying from, and the work load with the MOM/ICA officers etc among others. One can only say with some certainty that it may take from anything between 20 days to 50 days (based on different applicants' experiences).

IMO, instead of waiting for 1-2 days anxiously for an answer, you could do better by spending an hour reading the previous posts on this very page from as far back as possible, to get much needed clarity on the whole EPEC process.

Trust me, it will answer most of your concerns. Because in the end it is the collective experience of the whole community thats the strength of this sort of blog, besides ofcourse the admin's knowledge in the matter.

  173. Nobody knows the real reason for disapproval. The University and Degree plays an important role for a positive EPEC. But, you can still work in SG without the EPEC, FYI.

  177. Hi Ben! Yup, it's me again..after MOM requested me to submit additional documents they rejected my EPEC application on October 18 (my birthday!). So the next day I wrote an appeal using the email add you provided here and after three days, they emailed me back requesting that I email to them again my diploma and TOR for review of my application. On Oct 23 I did just that. I haven't gotten a response from them since I submitted their requested documents. Is a follow up in order now? What should I do? Should I email a follow up or call? Please help! Thanks very much!

I sent an email to the address mom_wpd_epec@mom.gov.sg and they have classified my email as suspected spam. Here is the reply I received

  183. How long does the appeal process take? It's quite strange how the MOM rejects applications that are qualified...

I hold a Bachelor's degree from a university that is on the selected institutions list, have a professional license qualification, and have been holding a skilled migrant visa since 2005.

I submitted all required and pertinent docs within the required dimensions, form and file size and these soft copies have been dimensions-maximized for viewing clarity.

But still, a rejection. Is anybody in a similar situation? Any reason that we can think of aside from a possible "quota of epec issuance has been reached by the end of the year"?

    Thanks and in advance!

  184. Hi,

Thankyou for sharing information on this blog. I applied after reading this blog and got my approval on time. Now just waiting for my EPEC to arrive.

    Thanks,
    ASH

    ReplyDelete
  185. They will reply around a week or 2. MOM also considers the balance for the type of degree, so it might have reached the quota. Just send the appeal and we'll cross the bridge when we get there. Good luck!

    Hi ash, Congrats!

  186. Hi Ben,

I am an Indian passport holder and I am aware that I need to get a visit visa before converting my EPEC into LTVP. I want to check for how long a visit visa is issued for eg: 5 days or 30days. Do I need to show them the hotel booking for all the days? And, after arriving in singapore when I am eligible to apply for LTVP.

    Regards,

    ASH

    ReplyDelete
  187. Ash, tourists will be given 30days Short term visit pass...Hotel booking inquiry depends on the immigration officer at your country...Applying for LTVP does not require you to present the hotel booking. Here's the link..

  188. Hi Ben,

My story is little different. I have searched enough to find a solution for my situation. But I couldnot. I hope you can help me.

I came Singapore in a student pass and finished my masters degree. My student pass validity was 1 year and my Univ helped me to get a one month pass(Which mentioned as Exit pass). Now am in the 19th day of that last month (Exit Pass). I applied for EPEC and got approved. My query is Can I extend my Exit pass with the help of Singaporen/PR and to apply for LTVP. Because LTVP usually take 4 weeks time to process. I havent got the EPEC certificate in post. Help me what i supposed to do in this remaining 10 days to extend/convert to LTVP without going to my home country.

    ReplyDelete
  189. I suggest you call the MOM to get the original certificate, personally. Then convert the EPEC to a LTVP at the ICA as soon as possible. If the time is not permissible during the LTVP application, apply for a 30-day Extension at ICA. It is not written in the requirements that a Singaporean/PR is needed to apply for a LTVP. Hope this helps.

    Dear KRISHNA CHAITANYA CHEVENDRA,

We have reviewed your application but regret to inform you that the application is not successful.

  194. I think I got lucky, my EPEC was approved the very day the scheme is discontinued. One cannot apply anymore: "Following a review, the Employment Pass Eligibility Certificate (EPEC) scheme would be discontinued from 1 December 2011. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) will no longer accept any applications or appeals from that date."

My process required a lot of patience and poise over 1.5 months (automatic rejection, appeal, re-rejection, explanation, upload, explanation, re-upload... Approval!). Thanks Ben for this post. Singapore here I come!

  195. Hi Ben

I have read your email regarding 3 months LTVP only for the existing EPEC holder however it states in a very general way that generally anyone claiming for lTVP would be given 3 months stay, exisiting document which i got approved in october clearly states that it's valid upto 12 months. I dont think they mean to reduce this period for exisiting pass holders from what i understood , it looks very speculative at the moment, can you please confirm this point!!

    Sandy

    ReplyDelete
  196. Hi Sandy, in my opinion, if you got your EPEC just before 01 Dec., then it is valid until its expiry. However, once you activate it for an LTVP after 01 Dec., you'll only be issued a 3-month LTVP.

Those who were approved for LTVP prior to 01 Dec.,the validity of the LTVP is still valid as stated in the document.

    ReplyDelete
  197. Hi Ben , My EPEC approved at 8 dec 2011, is it still valid? because i submit the application before 01 dec. i'm at Singapore right now. can i pick my EPEC Certificate personally?? where must i go?? thanks
